Hello October!
Hmmmmmm…so what shall I call you?
Are you a Miss October or a Mr. October?
You must know that I have been patiently waiting for you to show up.
This is the 10th in the series of 12 months in gender. I
As I sit typing this post, I can say ‘This is definitely October.’
As the days wane, the nights close in and the trees don their vibrant hues, a chill creeps into the air.
Not the bite of wintry blusters, but just a nip to let us know a new season is on it’s way.
Those traits alone lean toward the masculine, don’t you think?
Daylight shifts as Autumn fades in like a softly sung hymn.
Hmmmmmm…so what shall I call you?
There is no doubt in my mind that you are a Mr. October!
I am aware that you usually record the first freeze as well as the first snowfall of the year, depending on where one lives in the country.
I know in Florida, we won’t have that sudden hard freeze that likes to show up in October as in the northern states…no, a much more subtle tick down as we drift into cooler weather.
And October, you are really an almost perfect month…many of us love to plant bulbs for spring beauty and many of your days are so even-tempered as you prepare us for the harshness of winter.
This is definitely the time for light jackets and sweaters which allows us to attend outdoor activities such as football games.
It is normally not too hot or not too cold.
Or we can take long walks, shuffling through the Autumn leaves enjoying the crisp air after the hot, sultry and humid days of the summer months.
And we mustn’t forget the BOO activities at the end of the month…
Let’s take a look at your gemstone and your flower…
October has two birthstones; Tourmaline and Opal.
Tourmaline is a favorite gemstone for many because it’s available in a rainbow of beautiful colors.
Opal gemstones are truly unique because each individual gem is adorned with a one-of-a-kind color combination.
Wow!
And the flower is the marigold…so perfect for Fall color planting.
So to sum it up, Mr. October, we have determined that you slowly transition us to cooler weather with shorter days and longer evenings for entertaining….which is a plus.
And let’s not forget the Autumnal colors, splashing reds, yellows and golds all through the twisted branches of the shade trees which gives us watchful beauty.
And the air filled with just a tincture of earthiness – just a hint that brings to mind the cozy evenings and warm comfort foods like hearty soups and casseroles.
Cozy is a good term for Mr. October don’t you think?
Blessings and hugs

Shuffling through the leaves on my morning walks is one of my favorite activities. By the end of the month those glorious walks will probably end until spring. Even though I’ve lived here in Michigan all of my life I still detest the cold and the snow.
That being said it make me enjoy the warmer temps even more when they arrive. Have a glorious fall and stay safe and be well.♥

Dear Kari, October is my brother’s birthday, and it’s a favorite month of mine. I used to horseback ride a lot during this month. Great weather with beautiful foliage. Yes, I think October is a Mr., but I could see a lady twirling in all these magnificent colors too.

You are right Sandy, October could be a Ms also. I miss my horses and riding…seems like such a long time ago but it has only been about 20 years…oh, I am getting old. LOL Thanks for stopping by, Blessing always
