My dear readers, this post about August, is the eighth in the series of the months of the year that I started at the beginning of the year.
You see, I have been assigning genders to each month and perhaps you might ask why!
Well, because I am a dreamer, a romantic, and I love to hear summer rain on a tin roof.
I believe in knights in shining armor and I smile at red cardinals perched on white snowy branches,
…and I love the way the coastal breezes sway the large palm fronds on the slender palm trees on any given tropical day!
AND….
I have a Secret Garden where I sit in the early morning hours and meditate and pray, which fills my heart with gratitude!
AND….
…..my creative nature flows with thoughts that I just can’t wait to get down on paper or in this case, in a post,
…….first selfishly, for myself as I need to see the printed words of my thoughts, and yes, in spite of all the technical inventions, I like to make hand written lists…
……but secondly for you, my dear readers, who may have the same tendencies and feelings.
and this 8th month of the year, this month’s characteristics, in my opinion from my early morning thoughts, make it a definite “Mr.”!
Let us start with the obvious!
Mr. August is hot and sometimes sticky from high humidity!
(Take that anyway you want to take it) 🙂
The origin of August can be traced back to the year 8 B.C., when the Roman government renamed the month after their first emperor, Caesar Augustus. Augustus was used as a formal title that translated as honorable making it a perfect name for a mighty and powerful ruler. Augustus was shortened to August in 1097.
There are no official holidays in August, but that doesn’t stop most people from taking a vacation.
August is the busiest time at the beach and in the mountains, as summer-weary folks take a break to cool off.
The name is not only the obvious noun, the name is an adjective too.
Hmmmmmmm, interesting right? Much like the male gender.
And you may take that any way you want to take it! 🙂
Let’s continue!
The word august(/aw-guhst/) means awe-inspiring and tremendous, having or containing elements of significance or majesty. Someone or something highly esteemed, possibly due to age or maturity.
Examples?
A brilliantly successful business man walks confidently into a room full of motivated employees and the man could be described as being august!
OR to elementary students counting down the days of their summer vacation see August as being quite august.
True it could be a woman, but the more I study the 8th month, the more I am convinced it is of the male gender.
Look at the Peridot gemstone for this month!
And the flower?
It is the Poppy! I love the brilliant red of this awesome flower!
The petals are like paper, which could be both strong and fragile, again like the male species….while the buds are prickly and fuzzy, bent over in disguise as to what lies beneath.
Need I say more?
What are your thoughts regarding the gender of the month of August? Aside from the fact that you most likely never gave it any thought? 🙂
If you missed the gender I gave the other 7 months and would like to see my imagination at work….click on the links below!
Miss January, Miss February, Mr. March, Miss April, Miss May and Miss, or Mr. June…depending on your point of view…and Mr. July!
I would love to see your comments!
Have a great and blessed day!
Please comment, I'd love to hear from you.
