This is a movie review…”Tammy”!
Tammy is the name of the movie and stars Melissa McCarthy who I believe is a very funny comedian.
This movie had several prominent names and I always like a comedy, where I can laugh and not take it too seriously.
The cast list is below….
I did laugh at some funny scenes, and cried at some sad scenes.
Melissa McCarthy does not aspire to be one of those slim, sexy model-like actresses and I admire her for being comfortable with herself, just like the rest of us average women.
Or as I like to say…one of us! Genuine!
I was surprised to see Susan Sarandon, real age 67… playing Tammy’s grandmother and Allison Janney, real age 54… playing her mother. Melissa McCarthy’s real age is 43.
Ok! I don’t mean to get technical doing the math on ages….that is funny in itself! 🙂
The movie starts out with Tammy having one of those really bad days when everything goes wrong. (we have all had days like that, huh?)
She drives a beat-up old car that finally conks out, loses her job at a fast food place and goes home early to even more disappointment in her already horrible day.
One funny scene was the scene where a discussion came up about Neil Armstrong and Tammy says something like…isn’t he the guy who rode in the Tour de France?
In the movie, Tammy wears Crocs …and that reminds me of Mario Batali the Italian Chef who always wears Crocs.
I personally don’t own Crocs and most likely never will, but it is a funny bit.
The story line could probably be a better one….and there is a lot of shtick or predictable scenes with laughs.
Some critics call this a problem, but if we remember back to other comics using the same gimmicks over and over for laughs…well, it is ok in my book.
Funny is funny!
For those of us old enough to remember “The Three Stooges” or “Red Skelton’s “Freddy the Freeloader” or Jackie Gleason’s “The Poor Soul”…well, those characters certainly had schtick…and Melissa McCarthy is no different.
Will the movie “Tammy” be up for an Academy Award? I doubt it…but it did give the Captain and I a few laughs on a very busy 4th of July week-end!
There is some language which I wish had been left out…but I did think it was interesting that Tammy’s grandmother (Susan Sarandon) told her she had a “potty mouth”…which apparently made an impression on Tammy as she prepared to rethink her life, choices and actions!
Have you seen the movie “Tammy”?…And if so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks Sandy….and you are right…it seems the Captain and I go in spurts as far as movies go….it is either feast or famine. 🙂

I forgot to say the last movie I saw was Jersey Boys, and I highly recommend it. They used the cast from the broadway play in the movie, and they were superb. It’s not funny because there was nothing funny about their real lives. Excellent though!

No, I haven’t seen Tammy, Kari. I probably won’t, but I see very few movies. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
