All Hallows Eve OR Halloween…..And More!

harvest5

My Dear Readers….

Today is All Hallows Eve and/or Halloween or Harvest Festival or whatever you choose to call it.

I prefer not go down the creepy, scary, frighten-me-out-of-my-skin type Halloween celebration.

The Blue Hour, A Special Time Of The Day!

blue-hour5

My dear readers…I am sure you know what the Blue Hour is.

Photographers really like and appreciate the Blue Hour for taking beautiful pictures…. but just in case you don’t know of it…let’s look at Wikopedia’s definition:

The blue hour (from La hora azul, in Spanish, or L’Heure Bleue in French) is the period of twilight early in the dawn each morning and late dusk each evening when the sun is at a significant distance below the horizon and the residual, indirect sunlight takes on a predominantly blue hue.

Easy To Make Cozy Flannel Throw….

As I have said before, the Captain and I spend lots of time in the Secret Garden, and on our Lanai. We now spend time in the front foyer, now that we have two rocking chairs… and a cozy flannel throw is great for those nights when it can get a little cool from the ocean breezes off the gulf of Mexico. A lightweight flannel throw is perfect!

Also, we have been known to make a fire in the outdoor fireplace in the Secret Garden during the colder weather.  We have roasted marshmallows and hot dogs which is so enjoyable until one has to take the blankets or throws back in the house, permeated with smoke.

Not good!

Short, Sweet and Savory!

candy-corn3jpg

My dear readers…I am so pumped up with the Fall and with all the treats that come with it and so I will get right to this short, sweet and Savory recipe.

I have a confession to make….

I love hot green tea!

I can’t help it.

It wakes me up.  It makes me smile.  It’s been through the rough times and the good times with me and so far, it has never let me down.

I love watching the steam rise from my tea cup first thing in the morning.  I love when the smell drifts slowly through-out my kitchen and then….

….and then I take a breath and reach for that cup. I encircle the cup with my hands, warming them from the heat of the cup…

…….and then comes that first wonderful sip.

Ahhhhhhh! Soooooo enjoyable!  Such pleasure!

Painting The Lanai And Re-purposing Furniture!

Painting The Lanai And Re-purposing Furniture!

It started like this…innocent enough!

It was a warm evening with just a gentle breeze fluttering the curtains hanging on our lanai.

The Captain and I sat at our al fresco dinner meal …. discussing the ways of the world and politics and a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

I studied the Lanai walls and I said:

“We really should paint the lanai….it definitely needs updating and I am a bit tired of this orang-y/coral color”.

Once A Long Time Ago……In The Big State of Texas…

Once, A Long Time Ago…in a Galaxy far, far away…

Ok…Texas is not in a Galaxy far, far away….but it did provide me with a wonderful cold soup recipe, called Gazpacho!

Gazpacho! A fresh tasting cold soup, so perfect for anytime.

It is true this soup is wonderful in the Spring and Summer….It is also good during Indian Summer weather which is what the weather is like these days….cool one day and warm the next.

There is a story behind this recipe.

I think it is interesting….

But then you know me and sometimes I can be weird!

I still think it is interesting! ?

About 40 years ago, when my Mother became an empty-nester….she decided to go back to work.

I was living in Dallas, Texas at the time, which was about a 30 mile drive from her home (in the Westchester Apartments) in Fort Worth, Texas to my home in Dallas.

Mother chose a book-keeping job for a famous restaurant in Fort Worth, Texas.

The name of the upscale restaurant was  “Cross Keys.”

The restaurant wasn’t too far from the Fort Worth stock yards.

All Things Pumpkin…and More!

fall-decor-2016-6

The golden light of fall is one my favorite things about the season, …when the low slanting light paints everything in a soft warm glow and slowly turns the evening skies into that pretty blue hour just before the curtain of black encompasses the night.

Ahhhhh, tis the season of pumpkins, squash, gourds, and apples.

Yummy foods!

Yep! And apple orchards, hay rides, pumpkin patches and corn mazes!

And More…..

Harvest feasts of hot cider, wiener and marshmallow roasts over a bon fire on a cool, crisp Fall evening!

Hay bales and ghost stories and children laughing

I love the smell of the bon fire and the warmth it gives out to all who surround it.

And who hasn’t pulled a warm, toasty, sticky, gooey, marshmallow from the pointed end of a stick that has been roasting over a bon fire?

A Perfect Combination…..Steaming Tea, Warm Donuts and Me!

Steaming Tea, Warm Donuts and Me!

Do you know of anyone….anyone…who doesn’t like donuts?

My grandchildren and great grandchild loves “donees” and they come by that naturally.

I love donuts too!

Not everyday…

…..but as the weather is turning cooler and the days are getting shorter, perhaps there are those of you building crackling fires in your fireplaces or you are taking long walks shuffling among the beautiful fallen leaves…. you just might be craving a Maple Glazed Spice Donut!

I mean it just doesn’t get any better, does it?

Picture this:  Take a deep breath and close your eyes and imagine a plate of warm, maple-spice donuts and that wonderful maple glaze with just a hint of maple syrup oozing down the rounded sides of the donuts.

Come On Now!!!!!…..and your favorite drink cradled in your hands.

Yep! these are simple delicious and you can make them in just a few minutes and you most likely have all the ingredients in your pantry.
