The Captain and I love to go to the Movies AND..we love to watch old movies at home.
So when Friday night rolls around, we jump at the chance to make it a date night, especially if it is raining cats and dogs and the only place to be is at home, curled up on the sofa in front of a cozy fireplace, eating popcorn and watching an old movie.
A couple weeks ago…it was that very scenario, so I decided to “jazz” it up a bit and really celebrate movie night at home. I bought all kinds of movie candy to go with the buttery popcorn and set up a tablescape. It isn’t the same as the movie theater unless there is candy and popcorn!
I know, right?
I shopped around my home for items to use on my tablescape which is really the fun way to set a table…. and found all sorts of cool things to use as our movie night tablescape.
That is the best way, isn’t it?
I used red chargers, white dinner plates, red salad plates, red water glasses and red flatware.
I used red and white napkins and draped tickets that I had purchased for one of our Christmas events. You have to purchase a large roll, so I will have enough for any future raffles for the whole city of Cape Coral. just jokin’!
Oh, and in case you are super observant…..the reason there are 4 place settings is because we invited another couple, but they took a rain-check because of the….yep, you guessed it the rain!
Anytime there is thunder and rain, my little fur baby is right under my feet….so it is no wonder that he photo bombed my photo. 😉
And speaking of rain….if it hadn’t been raining so hard, I would have brought in our popcorn machine that is stored in the cabinets on the lanai that we bought several years ago at Costco.
Actually, The only items I had to purchase was candy…and lucky for me, the only candy I really like at the movies is milk duds with my popcorn, so there was no chance I would be gourging myself on left-over Skittles, Twizzlers, Starbursts, etc….just not my thing!
Although the Captain might be another story! 🙂
We started off our dinner with simple Cheeseburger Sliders and home made french fries. I wanted to leave room for the popcorn…so I made the little burgers using Hawaiian dinner rolls. Perfect size.
Lucky for us…that we decided on one of our old movies, because our Direct TV went out with the thunderstorm and we were able to choose a movie from our movie collection.
Which is extensive!
We love movies and have been collecting them for years!
As I was cleaning up after dinner, I suggested the Captain pick out a movie…knowing he would most likely pick a movie about airplanes.
You see, he has been flying since he was 16…both airplanes and helicopters… and he never tires of looking or talking about aviation.
Lucky for me I worked for Boeing for over 20 years and can usually keep up with him when he is talking the 4 Forces of Flight…thrust, drag, lift and weight!
In fact, to this day, if he hears an airplane go over our house, which happens occasionally….he runs outside to watch it fly over. I guess the Little-Kid in him will never grow up and that is ok with me!
Oh, and the movie the Captain chose?
“Always” with Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter.
Yep!!!, An Airplane movie!
But, a very romantic one and one of my favorites of all time. A movie that was just perfect for our date night at home, thunderstorm and all.
Have you seen this movie? The synopsis is below.
Aerial firefighter Pete (Richard Dreyfuss) risks himself and his vintage World War II airplane in a constant and death-defying quest to fight forest wildfires, much to the dismay of his girlfriend, Dorinda (Holly Hunter). His love for Dorinda and the advice of fellow pilot Al (John Goodman) convince Pete to give up his perilous career, but he flies one last mission. Pete heroically saves Al’s plane from certain destruction, but with supernatural consequences.
Do you like to have an ‘at home date night’? If, so…do you watch old movies?
Have a great Week-end!
Blessings, always….;)
