Hi …it’s “Me” again…
I want to talk about my Secret Outdoor Garden! The captain and I like to go out to eat when I’m not cooking. And one of the things we enjoy about living in Florida is to be able to sit at outside tables and chairs at sidewalk cafes. Something we enjoy more is being able to sit outside in our gardens…both the Lanai and the Back Garden.
There’s something about eating out in the breezes that relaxes the Captain and Me. We eat outside at our home many days and nights. With a few exceptions, the food is much better and healthier as we know what goes into a recipe.
We have a Lanai with table and chairs (seats 4) in our front courtyard and we have what we lovingly call the Back Garden or the Tuscany area which also has a larger (seats 8) table and chairs.
The pictures posted are from the back garden. It has been a work in progress since we bought our home. The Captain erected a beautiful Pergola that I have hopes of trailing vines encompassing with masses of big pink hibiscus type blooms. Actually, the vines are called Mandevilla… but they certainly resemble the pink hibiscus blooms on the plants we have scattered in our garden.
We have set an old rectangle table under the pergola and added metal chairs that I found on line and repainted in rust, yellow, lime green and blue. I really like the old traditional look so after painting them, I “scuffed” them up a bit with light grade sandpaper.
I put a tablecloth imprinted with grape clusters for that old time look. The oil cloth type tablecloth (or plastic backed cloth in terms used today) …reminds me of my Mother’s kitchen table. She always had a oil cloth tablecloth on the table. Protecting the finish I assume …but it was a formica type dinette table and the surface could easily be wiped clean with no damage to the finish. 🙂 Hmmmmmm…..
As you can see from the pictures….the vines are growing….and that is a good thing….just wish they would grow faster. 🙂
Do you have any suggestions for giving the back garden or as I like to think of it …a Secret Garden…a more Tuscany look?
I know the Captain will be excited to do more on the project…especially since he had to lay every one of those pavers. I don’t think he has recuperated from that …but he is tough! Or so I tell him. 🙂
Till next time….Me…
Please comment, I'd love to hear from you.
